Voices from Success Teams and Idea Parties:

Having a team to report to and hearing what everybody did each week is very exciting. It’s kept me moving all year. In the past I made some good starts on my own, but found, every time, when the energy ran out, I ran out. Now it doesn’t run out.

I would do a painting a year, a sketch a year. If it was only me I know I would never do it. Having to tell you makes all the difference. It’s crazy why I didn’t do this years ago, it’s so easy all of a sudden.

  1. My dream is to own my own business. Currently I think doing Virtual Assistant work. However I also have a dream of owning my own home with little land for horses etc. Or just gardening. It seems non of my dreams get off the ground- obstacle after obstacle! Any money I saved is gone. I tried looking into usda home loans but not sure if legit- the man didn’t return my call or text. I currently am not having success renting due to last landlord not treating us right with pandemic so giving realtors bad word about us( long story). I also need a vehicle! Our old van needs new transmission. New cars plus insurance is alot of $ these days! I really don’t want to go back working for any old job. I want to enjoy my work. I love animals and joined rover but no work n 20% cut they take. I feel like Im complaining but just trying to figure all this out has been difficult. I have kiddos to care for. No family to lean on. Well, thank you for ideas!

  2. Hello there,
My dream is to become a professional Skateboarder.
My Problem is the following: I have 2 reoccuring injuries, sprained ankles and shoulder dislocation. The last shoulder dislocation occured about 2 years ago but i can still tell how instable it is even though i am doing what the physiotherapists told me to do.
“TRAIN THE ROTATOR CUFF”… “It will be fine”…
Well let me tell you it doesn’t help as much as they like it to.
I don’t know if the issue is actually that i have weak muscles… I never trained to get big, just to be fit and on top of that i should train more ?
When i tell people i skateboard, most think it s not hard to stay on a board, how is that working muscles ? Well it doesn’t, but try to fly around or pop the board off the ground while it flips liek you want it to flip. That’s very hard! It’s like doing the jumping rope while moving around.

Long story short, the core of my problem seems to be that there is no physiotherapist that takes my issue seriously, i can tell how they want the process to go slow so i have to come by as many times as they want while they do not tell me what my issue is specifically. Only when i did a lot of research and they see that i have some idea of what the problem could be they start opening up, but not as much as i wish they would (I understand they need customers).
I live in germany, i am a student, and i do not have a lot of money but i am willing to safe as much as i can and travel if necessary if any of you knows an honest physiotherapist that can give me a plan of how i can fix my overly tight muscles and imbalances (I’m pretty sure i compensate through wrong movement, a lot of atheltes do apparently).
If you have read this far, i thank you for your time.

Wish you all the best, Shervin.

    • Just a wild idea based on my good experience being a practice case with an unusual issue for a dental school, Shervin: ask if any professor of physiotherapy (classroom, not clinical training) or physical therapy would like a real-life case study for their course. You’ll get a top-notch expert on your case. You’ll get students asking questions and proposing theories on your behalf, so you’ll get more answers. You’ll interest the students because you’re a young, aspiring professional skateboarder, not the usual retiree with joint pain. You won’t need to pay. You might get free x-rays or scans to show the class. And you might find out what’s really wrong and what you can do about it.

    • Dear Shervin,
Around there where you live, are there any clinics or physical therapy places that specialize in sports medicine?
At the age of 75, it takes my body way longer to recover from serious injuries than it did when I was a skiier in my 30’s. But, I have recovered from two rotator cuff injuries, one in each shoulder, and one suffered in a fall when hiking, from a couple of years ago. I still hike and camp. And of course, camping in a tent is pretty impossible when you have a rotator cuff that’s screaming at you. So I went for physical therapy because I wasn’t about to give up going to the mountains! Unthinkable!
And, I was lucky enough to get a PT who went hiking himself, and understood sports medicine. Around here, there are specialized sports medicine clinics. It took months; the exercises were very painful, but by gosh, they paid off. Last summer, I slept in my tent again, and the pain’s gone. I will continue to go camping and hiking.
I am living in Washington State, in the U.S.

  3. I just found Barbara today, and I see she has passed. I am so sad. I watched her Ted talk video tonight and just cried and cried. I stopped dreaming decades ago and am not sure what my dream is anymore…but my life long love of all animals. When I was younger I said if I ever won the lottery I would buy some land and go rescue every animal out of the shelter. Well, now I am 55, and don’t have money to buy land, and that is my barrier. Could someone help me figure this out? Thank you.

    • Hi Amy, it’s such a great wish! It may help to break it up in smaller chunks. While getting your own land can be your long-term goal, why not start smaller by helping out at a local shelter/rescue team/becoming a foster (one animal at a time if space is an issue)/helping out a pet (re)placement organization (or starting your own?)/privately helping people with their pets. That way you can have animals in your life already while you work on that larger goal. You’re going to build some contacts and may find someone who has already done what you’re dreaming of, and needs some help with it. By working with them you will be making a lot of impact without having to spend money to buy land. Not sure if it was Barbara’s original saying, but I think she believed in “start small, start now”. Now as in, today. Good luck!

    • Be with the animals. Anywhere you can. Any way you can. The land is just a barrier to your real dream, which is providing caring and love to those animals. Barbara would always say that it’s criminal to wait until you get your Michelin star before you feed a starving man.

      • I’m sad that I “discovered” Barbara after her death, but I am glad what she started and nurtured carries on. What a blessing!
In all honesty, I hadn’t thought about what my dream was, I think I stopped dreaming about this 40 years ago. To save as many animals as I can, to provide a forever home, seems impossible. My finances are in the garbage can. But listening to Barbara gave me hope. And your kind reply has encouraged me.
Thank you for replying and with wonderful advice. I will step out in faith. Blessings to you!

        • Barbara practiced something she called “plop philanthropy.” Instead of trying to save the entire world, find someone you can help (or some animals), plop yourself down, and help in whatever way you can right now. You can read about her work in Turkey at http://kilimwomen.com to see what I mean. It’s time to dream again!

          • I just discovered Barbara today, her Ted talk video popped up on YouTube. What an amazing woman!

I would like to second what Patty said about helping in whatever way you can now.

In fact Amy, you said it yourself! “To save as many animals as I CAN, to provide a forever home”

Here’s a story from my life… Three years ago I had a roommate, who had a pet snake, that he would feed live rats to. I didn’t even know this until one day he said to me, “my snake isn’t hungry, I don’t know what to do with this rat.” I was not a fan of rats, but I opened the box she was in and instantly fell in love the baby albino dumbo-eared fancy rat, I named her Pinky. I saved her from being snake food. I was completely broke, I couldn’t even afford a cage. I fed her bits of whatever I ate. I took everywhere with me. And at home, my bedroom was her bedroom. She made herself a nest in my dresser drawer. I loved her so much. It sounds odd to say about a rat, but she brought so much joy, and love and fulfillment to my life. She passed away from old age a few weeks ago (rats typically only live 1-3 years). I miss her like crazy. But at least I know I gave her the best possible second chance at life after having been placed in a cage with a snake.

So if you want to save an animal, I promise, even small ones can be very rewarding.

Even if you really don’t have any place to keep an animal, that doesn’t mean you can’t find them forever homes. You could volunteer at the local animal shelter or spca, you could help them to write loving descriptions of animals awaiting adoption, or create posts on social media to connect people to animals in need.

It doesn’t matter where you start, even if it’s small. What matters is that you start.

    • Hey, Amy!
I am also an animal lover!
I suggest to find a rescue to volunteer for now. There are so very many ways to help! I have fostered before, but when I can’t foster, I pick up boxer dogs from the shelter and drive them to foster homes, or I go do home visits for the organization to see if the homes are appropriate for rescue (fences in place, etc.). I am a teacher, and sometimes getting a call to transport a dog (we call the transports CURS….(canine underground railroad…..) seems like it will be a hassle because it might happen on my day off, or after work in the evening where I won’t get home until 10 pm, but I have honestly NEVER regretted doing it, and just love knowing I helped a dog get a foster. Those transports are some of the happiest days of my life.
Also, I used to work with Youth-at-Risk, and I started a dog training program at the camp for six dogs who needed homes. I had a rescue trainer come in and help train the kids to train the dogs. Not suggesting this is your only route, but just throwing some ideas out there to show there are many opportunities to help animals, even without being able to start a rescue at this point. Best of luck, and keep us posted!

  4. Hi, I would like to go to Expo Dubai for free.
Any suggestions like someone needs someone to accompany, or a ournal that wants an article…
    I already checked Jobs online…
I speak fluently German, Arabic, English, French and Spanish. i am a social anthropoloist and have worked in yemen and syria for a long time and I am an expert on arabic culture.

  5. Write a musical based on what you are feeling and start following Ken Davenport. He’s a Tony award-winning producer with a large online following. Follow your dream…don’t compromise!! What others see as obstacles can be your path to joy and abundance.

  6. Hi everyone
I’m in a weird place right now in life.
I started university this year and I’m currently studying psychology.
I love what I’m studying but my dream since I was 11 is to become an actress and make music(I like writing songs).
The problem is that due to covid I can’t take any acting classes and I just don’t know where im going with my life.
    What would you suggest doing?
    Thanks I’m advance

    • Psychology is SO useful in acting. And I second Necie’s recommendation of online acting classes. Just do a search for “online acting classes” and you will find plenty of them to choose from.

You can also search for “online acting casting calls” or “online auditions” if you want to try your hand at acting during the pandemic.

  7. My dream is to write and record a song that brings peace to the world.
My obstacle is that although I am an excellent musician, I find it very difficult to write songs that aren’t sad songs about relationships and I have no way to record or publish anything.

  8. I want to co-create abundance: lovely income opportunities for low income families, legally, in their respective countries (recently started a website and studying online machine learning and thinking in models to find how to!) make so much prosperity for those involved that we can build clean water facilities throughout Africa and reduce that horrific statistic of 15 child deaths per second from thrist, bring it down to zero! How many people do care and love strangers enough to help?
    Offer:
Being blessed to own a lovely home that has lots of light, water, available spaces with the view of the valley, empty rooms, several gardens and although it needs plenty of fixing, including the old electrical wires, my rescued pets and I can welcome a couple dreamers this 2022 and maybe we can co-create heaven on earth

  9. * Wish1: I want to laugh, do something I enjoy doing as a job. I want to be happy. I’m interested in sg as a combination of exploration, showing the world (giving infkrmatjon, etc.) in a creative project (writing, documentary, journalism, etc.), engaging with compassionate and kind people, showing kind people and warmth). I’m also interested in the art industry, working with art or books -I’m not an artist but published a book already although not earned money with that).

Obstacle: the country where I live in does not really support that, and its rather depressive, hard to (hesitant) to make the move, often have lower energy.

    Obstacle2: does not exactly know, yet, what this job, profession could be;

Obstacle3: money (being unemployed), little amount of saving but relactunt to take job here.

Obstacle4: does someone know in these industries/areas

    Obstacle5: unfinished family stuff

Wish2: would like to experience being in a mature love relationship & later becoming a mother.

Obstacle1: indecisive if I stay in this country
Obstacle2: doesn’t always believe it I deserve it or that I can.

Wish3: would love to drive once a Fiat Mini

Obstacle1: old (never used) driving licence
    Obstacle2: learning how to drive
    Obstacle3: money
