All of the mini-workshops at our February 10, 2024 Telesummit were recorded, and you can listen to all of them for free.

Survival Guide for Dreamers

Survival Guide calendar, day 1If you’ve got a dream (or wish you had one) it’s time to stop being stuck. Let us send you 365 days of Barbara’s help with procrastination and Resistance. This new program is designed to give you exactly what you need to finally get moving. Here’s how it works: One day at a time for a full year Barbara will be with you via a brief email, helping you get past the procrastination and resistance that have kept you from achieving your dreams. That’s it. No exercises to do. No discussions to keep up with. Just an email a day to encourage you and teach you how to deal with whatever prevents you from going after your dreams. Begin your Survival Guide year at any time.

Barbara Sher Book Clubs

Our next book club will read Refuse to Choose from July 25 through November 13th. Registration will open on July 11, 2024. I hope you’ll join us. Read more about it here. Members of ongoing book clubs should contact webmaster@barbarasclub.com for assistance. Even after our official reading period has ended, members are still welcome to add comments for the full year. You won’t be alone in finishing the exercises.

Thinking Through Refuse to Choose: 101 things every Scanner should know

Thinking Through Refuse to Choose coverAre you a Scanner? These are people with a different (and often misunderstood) type of mindset: they’re curious and smart, always happiest when learning something new. But no matter how promising a path may appear, Scanners can never give up their love of exploring. And therein lies the problem: despite their passionate engagement with the world and their love of life, Scanners are unable to decide on one path, and they’re often afraid that there’s something horribly wrong with them. It’s usually forgotten that such people were once admired for their wide range of knowledge, even called Renaissance thinkers. Now they’re often labeled as immature, lazy dilettantes by a culture that prizes specialization above all else. I wrote this 99-cent Kindle book (with two great helpers) to highlight the top 101 takeaways from my book, Refuse to Choose! Use All of Your Interests, Passions, and Hobbies to Create the Life and Career of Your Dreams. Use it as an introduction or as a reminder after you read the book. Purchase this Kindle book here.

WriteSpeak Online: Write Your Own Success Story

WriteSpeak Online registration is closed now until February 8, 2025. This is Barbara’s entire WriteSpeak program—the 6-hour, highly interactive Teleworkshop plus a new 48-week online version of the material that was in her WriteSpeak retreat and telecourse, all for a fraction of the earlier price. The course is now taught by Patty Newbold, who taught it with Barbara since 2007, and Patrice Jenkins, a member of that first group and the first WriteSpeaker to be published, who taught it with Barbara and Patty in 2020 and with Patty since then. We also offer optional monthly group coaching and one-on-one coaching. Those who have already completed the required Teleworkshop and want to add the 48-Week Course should write to webmaster@barbarasclub.com.

For more information, check out barbarasclub.com/writespeak or listen to this Telesummit recording: How to Become a Writer and Speaker by Next February. New member registration will open again on February 8, 2025. Come find your message and your audience and begin your writing and speaking career.

Be sure you are on the mailing list to hear about new programs the moment they are available. The mailing list sign-up is under Barbara’s photo at the bottom of this page.

  1. How can I get started now using Barbara’s Coaching Principals?
Does Barbara have Telephonic Coach Training?

  2. Hey, Patty,

I just clicked the button on the book club course ( I could do anything…), and went through paypal, and then it seemed like paypal wanted me to close out again. Can you check to see if I am signed up? If not, I will go to my paypal account again, but I just did not want to pay twice if it was an issue with the paypal account.

Also, if I want to buy this for a friend, how do I go about it? How can I pay and and make sure my friend has access?

Hope you are doing great! Hugs! Karla

  3. Would like to sign up for a resistance level 1 course…didn’t know these existed and I’m delighted to do one soon…

    • We just added a Level 1 Workshop recording in the dropdown list above. You will also get to ask Barbara your questions in the comments after you listen to it. And you will be ready for the Level 2 workshops, too.

  4. I am going to move this post over here.

I need specific suggestions on how to build a network, for academic support/fine arts, such as teaching art, but also how to maintain and grow a fine arts network.
I so often close myself off, and just make things, but that social side is important.
I work with the Fremont Arts Council which runs the Solstice parade here, and due to that I am making the puppets, festival arts etc. There’s an audience. Lots of theater people, which may not be the people who get me, since I only see them during the events, almost never socially.

I don’t have as clearly a connection with the fine arts community. I do know people, but don’t feel the connections growing easily.

I want the part time decent pay position that will allow me to experiment with materials and focus on new work, etc or to be self employed. I have trouble focusing on a career goal just making one thing after another with no real goal beyond the immediate project.

  5. I have to leave the Chat now as I have to make an urgent phone call. I will see for more tomorrow. As I only could join the call after 1 hour I am curious to hear the full recording.
Thanking you in advance for ideas/comments and have a nice day/night where ever you live,
    Ilse

    • Hi! I found you by accident, Lise! I was looking at this page for your comments (and answered one there, and asked you a question).

Come over there if you’re still on…

    • I didn’t see this comment either. Drat! I was looking for you over at barbarasclub.com/resistance112

I even saw your response to something over there, but didn’t know where the original comment was and it was here on this site instead (barbarasclub.com/courses).

      Double Drat.

      • It’s hard to tell where I am. I was also looking for comments after the course and was off course, came here instead. and I was even looking for my comments here, and not finding the mall. thinking I hadn’t posted correctly. The wonders of easy access technology!

    • I’m glad, Lise.

I want you to know that anyone — even strangers — can read your comments on this ‘courses’ page and you should all come over to our private page at

  7. While we wait for Lise, I’ll ask about book writing. You told a participant to day to get her book written. (She said she already had material.) What alternatives are there to get quick publishing?
