How Does the Online Idea Party Work?

You have a dream or a wish, and an obstacle to getting there. (If you don’t think you know your wish, work through my kick-starter and read this post. To learn why you must put logic aside to find your dream, read the following.)

The online Idea Party is here to help you – and the other fellow party goers – with your wishes and obstacles.

Voices from Success Teams and Idea Parties:

Having a team to report to and hearing what everybody did each week is very exciting. It’s kept me moving all year. In the past I made some good starts on my own, but found, every time, when the energy ran out, I ran out. Now it doesn’t run out.

I would do a painting a year, a sketch a year. If it was only me I know I would never do it. Having to tell you makes all the difference. It’s crazy why I didn’t do this years ago, it’s so easy all of a sudden.

  1. So sad when I heard about Barbara. The world has truly lost a jewel. I’ve been mostly a satellite member of this board and have not followed through with my dreams much but Barbara’s work always reminds me that it is possible and that it is never too late. Thank you Patty for keeping her work alive. In one of her books (can’t remember which one) there was an exercise where we had to make a list of people who inspired us and make a collage of their pictures – they were our cheering staff. Barbara was one of my people. I will try to honor her memory by being more active on this board and go after my dreams.

    • Your allies! Barbara is definitely one of mine, too, Jennifer. Please do jump in here as often as you can.

  2. Hello! I am a “unexpected divorcee (after 39 years)” and a person with a few ideas. One is that I want to move to southern Colorado and keep the stories and history of 100 years ago alive. 100 years ago, the Colorado coal field wars was a story of resistance, the story of immigrants working in terrible conditions, with almost no way out, who insisted that they, too, were people who deserved a life of happiness.
Perhaps a tiny bit like Barbara, I found that tracking down these events and stories became a great happiness for me. Now, with the unexpected divorce and the financials to go with it, I both need and want to make a change. At least part time (since I am still working, and need to do so until I am 70) I need to find a way to be in that place, southern Colorado, which means that I need to find a little property that I can later put a modular home on. Does anyone else have a dream or an idea like this? Any others in Colorado, or thinking about Colorado as the place to be? I would love to hear from you!

  3. I live in a small village of Ohio, US. I want to offer Chinese language/culture/root learning to those were born from China but live in US, to get to know their root and wisdom from Chinese ancient wisdom/knowledge. (I currently study TCM)
I will explain Chinese words, traditional Chinese medicine, some content of books from thousands years ago. I have been teaching my young child, no force, he likes it)
Living in China, and speak Chinese, doesn’t mean knowing Chinese ancient culture and using them, knowing the true root, one could be Chinese but lives like modern American.
I want to find some students.

  4. Hi, folks. Please don’t post your email addresses here — we don’t want anyone “scraping” them to send you spam. This Idea Party group will continue, as will Barbara’s book clubs, Hanging Out, Sher Success Teams, the Survival Guide, WriteSpeak, and all of her Facebook groups.

  5. I was so shocked and deeply sad to hear about Barbara. I encountered her books a few years ago and regret not being more involved in her community sooner..I feel so deeply about her philosophy and her passion to help others.
I would love to be a part of an online group, hoping to carry out her legacy her..

  6. I’m sad… I’ve never met someone like Barbara who was delighted to write and didn’t regard it as a chore to help all of us.
But I’m also newly inspired to carry what I’ve been given from Barbara’s lifetime mission of action – into further ACTION.
    Genius SAVING forever!
Hope to offer up some of what I’ve already done to “study” Barbara’s inspirations and get some of my writing/outlining/ideas I wrote to those who are about to carry on Barbara’s offerings. Guess it will be Patty who I can offer these to…

Maybe I’ll read Barbara’s book “I Could Do Anything” to my blind friend on the phone too.

Is sweet to have played with so many of you here – despite the closed /boards forum at bsher website, are we converging on another site to go further?

I value the interesting ideas and valuable resources so many of you have gleaned and gleefully tipped to us who could use them.

Meanwhile, I’m on Brax(dot)me as @An8el if you’d like to find me instead of waiting for me to come back here. Brax is a perfect place for group chatting, because the chats are encrypted and as safe as who is participating. No email or phone number is required to sign up, only a password….but don’t forget that!

Anyway – hope some of you who I’ve befriended see this and come and find me.

    • To Patty Newbold – it appears in the “new upgrade” of Hanging Out that you just did, that I no longer have access to my past membership review of this site that was promised to us all after my having been a former 2-year member on Hanging Out here. (You probably have so many details to handle that I was mistakenly dropped in the upgrade process, because I’m now using this nickname email.)

Could you re-register this email address below so I can get a new password sent to me or re-enter the old password? (or the original email I used to use with my real name on it?)

      • Just seeing this now. Happy to send you login info. Will do so right now. Others who need help with login to Hanging Out or other programs: send an email to me at webmaster@barbarasclub.com

My days are filled with some very sad tasks, and I try to go through all the emails before the comments.

        • Patty, there must be something wrong with this site that’s not allowing people who want to contribute and ask about their “wishes & obstacles” to post here at the IdeaParty. After the wonderful Memorial given in Barbara’s honor today, I would imagine that there would be a surge in activity here on the public IdeaParty part of this site. Where else would be have a place to connect other than here?

          • Oh fantastic – Patty, you fixed it – people are posting again… Onward and upward!

  7. I was so sorry to hear about Barbara. She has helped so many. Please include me in the list. Thank you.

  8. Wow. So sorry to hear Barbara Sher is no longer with us. I have loved reading her books and listening to her videos. This site has been a wonderful resource. Will miss her dearly. Would love to be part of an online group. RIP beautiful Barbara. Kathleen
