Chapter 11, Exercise 1: Try the Sybil Tools

Read all about Sybils, then turn to the last page of the chapter for the Scanner Tool Kit items that best help them. Try at least one of the tools, two if this chapter describes you.

Here are the Scanner Tools recommended for Sybils:

  • Tool 1: Your Scanner Planner on page 146
  • Tool 2: Your 15-Month Goal Planner on page 150
  • Tool 3: Your Rotating Priorities Board on page 152
  • Tool 4: Avocation Station on page 154
  • Tool 5: Your Kitchen Timer on page 155
  • Tool 6: 20 or 30 Three-Ring Binders on page 157
  • Tool 7: Project Boxes on page 157
  • Tool 8: Your Scanner Daybook on page 140
  • Tool 9: The Setup on page 69

Tell us which tool(s) you chose and give us a review. If you found it helpful, you might also want to give it a page of its own in your Daybook. After you share your experience, read the rest of the comments and reply to a few.

Please be sure to subscribe to future comments on this exercise or to check back here on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning for new ones.

Use the Next link (up above the title) to continue on to Exercise 2: Picture a Sybil Life Design and Career after you are done adding your comments.

  1. I’m more interested in filtering and focusing than doing every idea I have.
I’m focused on the next three months. I’m not really thinking about any goals for next year other than allowing a couple summer trips to take shape (Schoolteacher Life Design Model). And a trip in February. I guess I see this holiday season as setting the stage for next year’s holiday season.

I don’t know that I want a rotating priorities board. I do feel my urges shift day-to-day and based on energy levels. I have no energy today for something I was excited about yesterday (organizing), likely because of what I made a priority last night (kids) and looking to priorities for the weekend (kids).

a bill paying center sounds really interesting. actually, i have a cart that i might repurpose for this! i’m not sure my particular interests fit an avocation station.

thirty binders sounds like a nightmare. i’m more of a thirty piles around the house kind of person. i do flirt with boxes; they seem to end up being long-term storage. i aspire to process them all, but recognize i probably won’t; a new priority will take over.

Barbara (an author) recommends so much writing. I read this last night:
Adventurers have an improvisatory nature. “We don’t think first; instead, our ideas come out as we talk. The person listening has to do the editing. I wouldn’t think of as much as I do if I tried to be succinct. I verbalize most everything that’s happening in my mind.”
