A Brand New Exercise for All Scanners

Open your Daybook and your copy of Refuse to Choose, Part Two. Get ready to look one more time at all the Life Design Models and all the careers for every type of Scanner.

Now, without any regard for the type or types you may be, try to bring together the Life Design Model that feels best for you.

Then see if you can find (or try on) the best career for yourself.

You need a warning, because you are a Scanner: Don’t worry about getting these absolutely right. And don’t fret about getting only one choice. This is an exploration, not a contract you must sign. What’s important is to trust your impulses at the moment you’re doing this exercise.

When you’re willing to try on actual choices, you’ll find yourself becoming more attuned to your instincts and imagination. But don’t do this exercise again until you really want to. It’s not a physical exercise, and you’re not building a muscle.

The lists of Life Design Models and suggested careers are also online, where you may have left a comment or two on them: Double AgentSybilPlate SpinnerSerial SpecialistSerial MasterJack-of-All-TradesWandererSamplerHigh-Speed Indecisive

When you’ve completed the Life Design Model and the best career, make a list of the best three Scanner Tools for you. Remember, these tools, like the Life Design Models and the best careers, can be found at the end of every chapter in Part Two or here online: Double AgentSybilPlate SpinnerSerial SpecialistSerial MasterJack-of-All-TradesWandererSamplerHigh-Speed Indecisive

I suggest you share your responses with each other in the Comments. You’ll learn even more when you explain why you made your choices and learn how your fellow Scanners made theirs.

I hope that, more than ever, this final exercise will confirm how lucky you are to be a Scanner and what a rich, enjoyable life you can expect to lead.

Please be sure to subscribe to future comments on this exercise or to check back here on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning for new ones.

Week 16: Epilogue and Pulling It All Together

This is our last official week together, but the website will remain open for anyone who wishes to continue discussing any of the exercises or chapters. If you fell behind, why not finish? You will have plenty of company.

I (Tammy) won’t be checking for comments daily after Wednesday, but I will try to answer as many as I can. I hope you will answer each other’s comments, too. All of the book club remains available to you through March 22, 2026.

This week, we will finish up our reading of Refuse to Choose! A Revolutionary Program for Doing Everything That You Love by reading the six-page Epilogue, Your Best Work and the 15-page Appendix on earning a living as a Scanner. Barbara offers us another new, never-before-seen exercise once we’ve finished them. Then it is time to sum up and share what we’ve all learned from our reading and all the exercises.

What I Learned from Chapter 19

This is your chance to reflect on what you will take away from Chapter 19: Are You a High-Speed Indecisive? and to learn from or contribute to other book club members’ take-aways. You can also pose questions here about the chapter or what you are discovering about yourself.

The exercises we completed in Chapter 19: Are You a High-Speed Indecisive? included the usual ones

  1. Try the High-Speed Indecisive Tools
  2. Picture a High-Speed Indecisive Life Design and Career

Do you think you are a High-Speed Indecisive Type? If so, tell us in your comment. Please subscribe to future comments on this page or check back here on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning for new ones.

That’s it for this week! Watch for your weekly email on Thursday or just log in again then. If you’re not getting the weekly announcements and you would like to add them, please send an email to me at webmaster@barbarasclub.com. I can also help with comment subscriptions if you need it. Until next week!
