    1. Very, very excited for the Resistance Workshop, Barbara! I had talked to you through facebook, and I really do think this workshop will help me immensely. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us, Barbara!

*tired of self-help books, kumbaya’s, belly bumps, high 5’s, and positive thinking*
      Amber

      • lol. Just remembering that I used to open all my in-person workshops with a speech saying, ‘There will be no group hugs and you will not sing Kumbaya.’ Thanks for reminding me 🙂

Glad you’ll be with us, Amber. Don’t be shy about telling us (or me via email) what your particular Resistance issues are. I seem to be answering quite a few of these, and it’s good to be reminded of the wide variety of reasons for and forms of Resistance.

        • No group hugs and no holding hands in a circle: YES! I’ve needed a few other groups to follow that policy!

        • And that’s what we love about you, Barbara = No Fluff + No Bullsh*t!

I will send you an email and let you know what I believe to be my Resistance.

    2. So excited to be able to finally attend the Resistance workshop that I was expecting to attend last July. I think Resistance is a chronic condition (sort of like being diabetic); Barabara’s books have always helped me for a while, but then life intervenes and I start to lose track of the ways to overcome my Resistance. And when I don’t overcome it, I stagnate. I’m a scanner, so stagnating is excrutiating to me and probably everyone who has to put up with me. So I’m bringing myself in for a tune-up! Thanks, Barbara!

      • Double-checking to make sure everyone who sent in their proof of registration to the July 20 teleseminar also signed up for either the Aug 31 or the Sep 14 seminars. Scouring my inbox, but I just know I’m missing someone. (I’d kill for that list I never got from those people! Well, not kill, but I sure wish I had it so I’d know I reached everyone!)

      • and I know you went to the ‘Courses’ page here (see menu at the top of this page) and picked one of the dates and got the telephone numbers, etc. etc. Right? 🙂

    3. I just want to clarify the message I just sent in, I continually do all sorts of programs like, tapping w/ Nick &/or Carol Look, Carol Tuttle’s Chakra 7, Christie Marie Sheldon’s “Love or Above” … I am working on getting to the RESISTANCE… obviously it’s not totally working thus far… I would be SO GRATEFUL if you would help me address this & so would my family/friends… 😉

    4. Hi Barbara,
My resistance has been LONG and challenging. It has been for 15- 20 yrs… sneaks up and then BAM -! I want to live my higher purpose, I’ve been a sales rep for over 30 yrs. (started young:) ) I’ve taken a 3 yr Bob Proctor personal growth program with courses, wkly coaching & monthly hypnosis (to eliminate limiting beliefs) ALL this & other continued courses, programs – still I am doing a job daily that SO drains me, difficult to take ACTION to find my higher purpose when I don’t have he energy. Being in the negative doesn’t allow me to see the positive. I am not happy, everyone who knows me knows that I want something different (at one time I was going to speak & write a book – re; overcoming obstacles but that isn’t the way I want to direct my energy. PLEASE help me to break down the resistance. Most people address going after your dreams/desires – visualizing & taking action…Law of Attraction, however I need to first identify what I want to do with my life when I grow up.. HELP, right now I should be starting my day & I’m procrastinating & have a highly accountable position… ..

      • Oh my. Well, I guess you probably know by now that I don’t encourage anyone to do any of those hard things you’ve done. To sum it up, I don’t believe you should try to have a positive attitude, or any attitude. I think you should pay attention to your feelings.

Seems to me your feelings have been telling you for a long time that you don’t like the work you do. Practically, it seems wise to figure out which part of your work is the most draining and which is the least draining, and start making *slow* but steady plans to shift your obligations to something less draining. (You could teach a class in How To Do Hard Stuff You Don’t Enjoy For a Really Long Time. I’m so impressed with your ability to do that! Most of us wash out.)

I don’t believe in risking one’s finances and finding yourself without enough to pay your bills. If you think your job is draining, try being out of money for awhile. Nope, there’s always a way to find work that pays and doesn’t hurt. If you’re lucky, where you already are. If you’re not so lucky, someplace else.

Now, let’s talk about Higher Purpose. You know, I don’t think I’ve ever said those words in my whole life before just now. But here’s my philosophy so you can see if you can work with it:

What you love doing is what you are gifted at. If you don’t love something, you can do it, but you’re not going to be special at it. And you won’t have any fun, either. So

        1) Find out what you love doing, and start looking for ways to do it. (Not necessarily for money! Earning Power is a heavy burden for love to bear, especially at the beginning.) and,

        2) The more you learn about what you love doing, the more you’ll understand your DNA. You were designed to be especially good at some things and not others. The only way to find out what those things are is by asking your feelings. Not telling them, asking them. Nature has only one way to speak to us: It makes us love what we’re designed to do, and dislike what we shouldn’t be doing.

We all have to do things we don’t like, but your life will be so so much better if you don’t do them 40 hours a week! Do what you have to, try to get help for some of it. Pay your bills with a Good-Enough job that you don’t actively dislike. And go looking for what you love to do.

        3) You owe your gifts to the world. You’re not allowed to ignore them and never do them and then die and leave the planet.

What I’m saying is that you are obliged to do what you love because that is what you are gifted at. Doing what you love is not a privilege, it’s an obligation. Whatever it is, if it makes you happy, I promise the world needs it.

You don’t have to change yourself to change your life.

And, to stay on topic, sometimes Resistance is your best friend. It tells you not to jump off cliffs or eat kaka (after a certain age). I think the Resistance you’re talking about has been trying hard to deliver an important message to you, because it’s probably your best friend. Maybe you should start listening.

    5. Just to jog your memory of the emails we have had regarding the failed workshop. I hope that I am successful in registering for Aug 31st and would love to have you use me as a resistance example.

My personal resistance challenge is this.

I have been a qualified hypnotherapist for over 8 years now. When I first qualified I was excited and ready to go, but I really didnt know what I didnt know. I did see clients and had some good results with them. However, I always felt that perhaps I hadn’t received enough training and kept feeling doubtful about my abilities so I took myself off for more training over a couple of years. Still, after the training I felt a resistance to “coming out” as a practising hypnotherapist. I guess I felt and still feel hesitant in advertising myself. I think it stems from wanting to give 100% at all times and just plain worrying that i might not be able to help all people i see, I have a high moral and ethical code and I worry that if clients dont see all the changes they desire they will think I have failed them. I know on a conscious level that I play only one part in their success but subconsciously I take full responsibility for their outcome. I am a perfectionist par excellence! I could go on, but I’m sure you have heard it all before. I seem to be a serial “course taker” but am afraid to step out of my comfort zone and shine’

Not sure if this comes under “resistance” but I think it might.

      • I hope you’re successful in registering for the Aug 31 Resistance teleseminar, too, Vicky. Did you go to ‘Courses?’ (on the menu across the top of this page) and get to the page that gave you the telephone number and codefollowedbythepoundsign info? If not, please do so at once. That particular date is filling up fast.

    6. I am registered and confirmed for the September 14, 2013 Resistance Workshop. I have forwarded a copy of my July 20 registation confirmation. And, I look forward to finally particpating in the workshop.

    7. Looking forward to the Resistance teleseminar. This is a big issue for me. Your book “I Could Do Anything..” has the most underlined sections and turned down corners.Unfortunately I haven’t been able to overcome this problem.

    8. Webmaster: again, I can’t log in. The email address and password fill in automatically and that’s fine. Perhaps the account hasn’t been activated yet. If so, please advise me how to do that.

      Dottie

      • Is it your email address or your husband’s that fills in automatically. It should be yours.

    9. Webmaster,
When I try to log in, it says, “Sorry, either you have entered an invalid username/password, or you may not have activated your account yet.”

If I have entered an invalid username/password, I’d like to be able to change the password. If I have not activated my account, I would like to activate it.

Also I have emailed twice my local Success Team leader, Sandy Swain, that I’d like to join a success team in the San Diego area, but have not received a reply.

      Can you help me?

      Thanks,

      Dottie

    10. Amen to that message! You are so right Barbara. What most of us need is to treat the resistance issue, not the practice of positive thinking. In the category of positive whatever, I agree to doing nice things for ourselves, such as listening to you, and giving ourselves the time for anything that heals us or promotes expressing our “unique-ness”.
