Week 14: Are You a Sampler?

This week, we explore the Sampler Scanner Type. We read Chapter Eighteen, Are You a Sampler? It’s 12 pages. Samplers are the people who wish they could live 200 years to explore everything that interests them.

After we read Chapter Eighteen, we will try one or more of the tools that belong in the Sampler’s tool kit and consider the life designs and careers that are a good fit.

Here is what we will be doing this week:

Chapter 18, Exercise 1: Try the Sampler Tools

Chapter 18, Exercise 2: Picture a Sampler Life Design and Career

What I Learned from Chapter 17

This is your chance to reflect on what you will take away from Chapter 17: Are You a Wanderer? and to learn from or contribute to other book club members’ take-aways. You can also pose questions here about the chapter or what you are discovering about yourself.

The exercises we completed in Chapter 17: Are You a Wanderer? included

  1. Try the Wanderer Tools
  2. Picture a Wanderer Life Design and Career

It would be great if you would include in your comments whether or not you think you are a Wanderer Type. Please subscribe to future comments on this page or check back here on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning for new ones.

That’s it for this week! Watch for your weekly email on Thursday or just log in again then. If you’re not getting the weekly announcements and you would like to add them, please send an email to me at webmaster@barbarasclub.com. I can also help with comment subscriptions if you need it. Until next week!

Chapter 17, Exercise 2: Picture a Wanderer Life Design and Career

Take ten minutes to picture yourself living any one of the Life Design Models for Wanderers. Each of them is described somewhere in the chapter. What would be great about it? What would it be missing for you?

  • The Odysseus Model
  • The Itinerant Preacher Model
  • The "I Might Need That Someday" Model

If you are a Wanderer, you might want to do this for each of them.

Now do the same, for ten minutes, with one of the careers for Wanderers.

  • Income streams
  • Expertise for Sale

If you are an unsatisfied Wanderer, create a Backward Planning Flowchart for moving toward one of these careers.

Write in your Daybook how each of these felt and what great ideas came up while you were daydreaming about them. In a new comment on this page, tell us which ones you tried on and what you discovered about them and about yourself. After you share your experience, read the rest of the comments and reply to a few. Do you have any Wanderers in your group?

Please be sure to subscribe to future comments on this exercise or to check back here on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning for new ones.
