This week, we leave behind the Cyclical Scanners and begin to look at Sequential Scanners, those of us who shift from one interest to another instead of swinging between two or cycling through more. We begin with a brand new exercise from Barbara Sher, inviting us to look back at the origins and history of our Scannerness and our Scanner style(s). Then we read Chapter Thirteen, About Sequential Scanners, and Chapter Fourteen, Are You a Serial Specialist? That’s just 15 pages total. Serial Specialists have a rather long Duration for each interest. They are a bit like Divers, going deep into a particular interest, but then they move on to another.
After we read Chapter Fourteen, we will try one or more of the tools that belong in the Serial Specialist’s tool kit and consider the life designs and careers that are a good fit.
Here is what we will be doing this week:
Your Scanner Life (a bonus exercise)
What I Learned from Chapter 13, About Sequential Scanners
Chapter 14, Exercise 1: Try the Serial Specialist Tools
Chapter 14, Exercise 2: Picture a Serial Specialist Life Design and Umbrella Career
What I Learned from Chapter 14, Are You a Serial Specialist?
