The online Idea Party is here to help you – and the other fellow party goers – with your wishes and obstacles.

Voices from Success Teams and Idea Parties:

Having a team to report to and hearing what everybody did each week is very exciting. It’s kept me moving all year. In the past I made some good starts on my own, but found, every time, when the energy ran out, I ran out. Now it doesn’t run out.

I would do a painting a year, a sketch a year. If it was only me I know I would never do it. Having to tell you makes all the difference. It’s crazy why I didn’t do this years ago, it’s so easy all of a sudden.

  1. I want/am writing a book on how to step out of life’s conditioning, become unstuck, and follow your dreams. Based on my actual real life experience.

Obstacles are being distracted from writing due to my travelling. Still after 9 months I am yet to find the balance.

    • I am NOT a great writer. However, my uncle was. He created a pattern of writing every day. Besides keeping a daily journal, at least 2 pages detailing his interactions with others, he wrote at least 1,000 words every weekday on his current book. He wrote longhand on legal pads, so he had no technology excuses.

Your daily minimum may be different. But if you get even 250 words down each day, you are getting closer to what you want.

If you can journal about your travelling, it may give you future material and help you remember the stories that you experience.

The best to you in your writing and in being able to immerse yourself in your travels.

  2. The only thing that really gets me jazzed is speed.

Motorcycling, bicycling, skiing, ice skating or rollerblading–as long as it’s fast.

I’m 55 and own an office management company.

    • We could help you better with some more information. We can guess, but more information will help us get you to where you want to be.
What do you want to do with speed?
What is keeping you from doing that today?

    • You can run a business and speed, too. I’m sure you schedule your work hours and your appointments. Add an activity at least once a week where you get to move fast, Jimbo. A happy life is not an all-or-nothing experience. It needs variety. You can do one thing to make enough money to enjoy the others, as long as you find a way to make time for the others.

I used to imagine I had no spare time and no way to change this, until my husband suddenly died, and I needed to fit a lot more into my day as a single parent with an exhausting job. Step one was to eliminate most of my commute. Step two was to focus my time and attention on revenues, so I could double my take-home pay. It took only 14 months and a bunch of delegating and training others to pull it off, even while grieving. They I took dance lessons, joined clubs, read more, and traveled on the weekends with my son whenever a cheap airfare popped up.

Maybe down the road, you’ll start a business that has something to do with speed. And maybe you won’t — it’s harder to do the work part of working when others are having the fun you look forward to.

  3. I want to create a holistic healing center where people can enter different rooms at leisure and pay hourly. One room would be sound healing, another would be infrared, another would be reiki healing, another would be vegan foods and everything is included in the hourly fee! My obstacle is the start up money to rent a space (or build it) and costs for start up (equipment and utilities). I currently make $500/weekly at a place for people with brain injuries and can’t really save.
    I currently live in Maine

    • Consider finding an available space and partnering with the owner of the space. If they were part owner with you, they would not be charging rent, but would be sharing in the vision and a percentage of the proceeds. You may find other partners that are already practitioners of the different healing arts that own specialty equipment that you are looking for. It sounds like a wonderful healing place.

    • Hi Tiffany.
It sounds like a great place for healing and a sense of support.
Your obstacle is that you do not have the resources you need to make it happen. I am assuming that you are willing to put this holistic healing center near where you are right now. See if you can find an appropriate available space. Then share your vision with the owner of the space. If you could partner with her, then there is no immediate need for funds. She would share the profits with you. If you need specialty healing equipment, look for practitioners of that type of healing to bring into your partnership. It may be that there is equipment gathering dust that you could use without an upfront cost to you.

  4. I would love to be a motivational speaker. I have seen myself (in my head) inspire so many people it was so powerful!! For the first time in my life , I believe I can do it! This believe is opposite from the way I come across right now but what is possible is for me is huge. I have had this dream and many others so vividly and reoccurring over and over.
I have a lot going for me. So much freedom mentally.
My obstacles are: money , technical know how – although I am capable of learning it, I am intimated by it. I am too disorganized to manage it, or who will be interested in what I have to say? Why should people be listening to me – I don’t even have my life together, broke all the time and doing a job I don’t like knowing I am capable of doing so much better. I have been dreaming of this for years, the sporadic journals I wrote remind me of the fact I have been procrastinating for year. Help!

    • Start speaking on YouTube about your struggles. Many people want to know the real side of people. Begin by giving yourself 5 minutes a day to work on speaking. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking on YouTube, look at yourself in the mirror and practice on yourself by giving yourself a motivational speech. Watch the motivational speeches of others and observe what makes them powerful. I love listening to how people are at rock bottom and what they began to do to change their circumstances. Good luck!! Don’t give up!!

  5. I want to be an excellent concertina player, and be able to play music with others.
Obstacle: I freeze when I try to play with others, and I seem to be intent on making a lot of mistakes when I play. I am still learning.

  6. I am a dyslexia Specialist with 5 years experience and certified in the Barton Reading and Spelling System and other OG programs. I’m trained in some handwriting programs and techniques for students with dysgraphia as well. I am currently running my own business as a tutor in Utah, but I’m only just learning business smarts for the first time having just started my own practice this year after a lifetime of having my head in the government run education industry sand. I’m beyond broke. I’ve invested way too much in my business yet I’m not charging what I could, because ironically, I don’t wish to make my money this way. Tutoring is a passion and I hope to do it forever but I want to get into the tech industry. My wish is to develop a tech idea that I have to better help students overcome dysgraphia. My idea is research based, others before me and my own research that I am now doing. The goal being to increase efficiency in teaching and learning handwriting and writing fluency to help dysgraphic students to catch up faster in the classroom. I have a written design and I need to take it to the next step and get a prototype so I can really test it. I know I have an inspired idea that will outcompete what’s currently being done. So I need connections with a tech company that deals in education products that I can pitch to. Meanwhile, I’m learning all that I can about business, finances, entrepreneurship and the tech industry on my own while keeping up with the needs of my students to fulfill my commitment to helping them with research proven techniques and my experience and to further build my reputation in this industry. In summary I need connections with like minded people who can help a struggling, yet extremely dedicated and hardworking humble dyslexia tutor with a sole proprietorship.Thank you. 🙂

  7. Hello I am trying again here after waiting a little while to see if there are new / more ideas. I cannot support my family today and if single I could not even support myself. I have a house but bills are piling up above my head. Carefully I will mention that a past perpetrator was involved and led to a very bad life situation by destroying my career, along with doing some other wrong acts.
My key ability is that I can owner-operate a hospitality property. (I have some other skills but finding it hard to sell any of them.) I believe if I were living in such a property that I could support my family immediately. Maybe even restore a little fund for old age.
I believe the only missing link to working productively and support my family is actually owning the property ~ and maybe a restored credit rating so I qualify for merchant credit card acceptance to receive payments.
My house cannot support doing this, and it is almost impossible to get hired to be a live-in manager when there is a family and spouse to move in and when I am already aging a little. Someone here suggested international properties offered at very low cost but I learned these require proof of ability to make a financial investment in renovation, and today I do not even have cash for plane tickets to relocate my family internationally. I don’t think the perpetrator is very likely to ever repay or make me whole from the wrongdoing.
This seems to perfectly fit with Barbara’s work because both my skills and heart are ready to go, and I am extremely eager to support my family, but my life situation suffered such a terrible hit that it has veered completely away from who I am.
I also suppose I may need a ‘solution party’ vs. ‘idea party’, because I have been overwhelmed by the crisis for my family, so I guess that I need not just ideas but also probably an external hand up to pick me off the ground from the outside.

  8. I would like to achieve remission and then live near my sisters Kira and Mikla. -In Noe Valley in a nice home doing work that is gentle , maybe with someone who has money? obstacles: being across the pond; poverty; illness

    • I draw some what well and want to make a living of it. I thought of purchasing a digital art tablet from China(it is available for just 50% of the price in my country), but however the current coronavirus situation makes me unable to do so. I would like to know if I can get it at a cheaper price from elsewhere or a second hand one from a reliable source (I have been cheated by buying from ebay. So I am a little skeptical)
I also need guidance on how to start an art career part time for now, since I cannot quit my job.

      Thanks

      • Hi Mythri,
Thank you for coming to the idea party.

It sounds like you are good at drawing and would like to make money using that talent. You have a job that is providing a livelihood for right now. What can you do to use your art and make some money now?

You might want to talk to local businesses and ask them what they would like you to draw for them. Certainly, there is something that you could do that would help someone right now. After you are already earning money doing drawing in the physical world and after the coronavirus changes, you can begin to develop your digital art skills which will give you access to a larger market by the Internet.

May you be blessed in your endeavors.

  9. I would like to start a school / educational program for kids to teach them skills that will benefit them in the uncertain world of tomorrow – a world where surviving, fighting and adapting to climate change and everything it brings is an every day reality. I feel like normal education is not going to be enough for our kids and special programmes not affordable to most.

My obstacle is that I cannot do it alone, I need a whole community! I myself am just a regular mom with young children who is concerned for their future!
    1) I need to reach likeminded people willing to volunteer their time and knowledge.
    2) I do not have a background in education or working with kids.

    • Hi Jane,
It sounds to me that you want to make a difference to the next generation and have some definite ideas and are totally overwhelmed with doing it alone.
Look around your community and see if there are any organizations that are working on what you are interested in. Personally, I volunteer time and energy working with the Scouts BSA because their values reflect what I think is important and my effort there makes a difference as well as, I have a whole community of supporting adults to help me. Scouts BSA has training that has helped me learn to work with kids and the training has also helped me in my career and personal life in working with adults. I am sure other organizations have similar programs to teach skills of working with kids.
If you cannot find an existing organization that fits the bill, it is possible but much more difficult to start from scratch.
If I was starting from scratch, I would see if I could find 3-10 like-minded adults who have children, and invite them to come to a regular (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly) activity to work on your desired outcomes. Places to meet could be your home or apartment, parks, public buildings (libraries may have meeting rooms) or whatever you can find.
If your real focus is a full school, look at the Charter school movement. Like other organizations each Charter school has different approaches and methodologies that may or may not match what you want to accomplish. Most schools are always on the lookout for volunteers to help. Or if it is enough of an inner burn, you could become a full-time teacher. With teacher shortages, the requirements are changing to allow many other than those with a degree in education to teach.
These are great goals and it will not be without effort to make it happen. May you be blessed in your desire and efforts to make the world better for our youth.

    • Where do you live, Jane? I bet there are teachers who would help you out with a curriculum that you could offer to homeschooling parents. I am a third grade teacher, and would totally help someone with that!

  10. I need to build my credit so that I can get myself from high interest rates to get out of debt quicker. I would like to also learn about opportunities to work online. I have some physical limitations so it would be ideal to be able to work from home, some of the time. Perhaps someone has some ideas about getting into affiliate marketing or becoming a virtual assistant.

    • If you have not done yet, please check out “The Dave Ramsey Show” (https://www.youtube.com/user/DaveRamseyShow) and “Til Dept Do Us Part” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LgqPCBqe-I&list=PLwyhDyJ3VORb-RuLRAP87MmqTPa7KhV2L).

Concentrating on increasing your income and minimizing your expense will help you much more than any credit rating. Because you do not need a good credit, when you are out of debt.

      As for online income:
      upwork.com
      peopleperhour.com
      for some ideas.

      • Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.! I will certainly check these out. I have upwork downloaded on my phone but haven’t gotten any leads via that app but will certainly check out the other one and the videos!

      • Funny, Britta — Dave Ramsey is the first place I thought to refer her to. I did leave a comment, but it might be in for moderation because I used a web link. I’ll try again…

–Carmen, also check out a virtual assistant website called VAnetworking. Add the dot-com after VAnetworking to join the free forum and learn from others or their many programs. Good luck 🙂

    • Carmen, you can join for free at VAnetworking.com and network with other virtual assistants, both beginners and highly experienced. This site and forum has been around since 2003 and Tawnya who runs it is awesome! Also – building credit to get lower interest rates may not be needed if the goal is to reduce debt 🙂 Check out Dave Ramsey’s advice about doing a Debt Snowball (and his other 7 steps) at daveramsey.com .
      Best wishes!
