The online Idea Party is here to help you – and the other fellow party goers – with your wishes and obstacles.

Voices from Success Teams and Idea Parties:

Having a team to report to and hearing what everybody did each week is very exciting. It’s kept me moving all year. In the past I made some good starts on my own, but found, every time, when the energy ran out, I ran out. Now it doesn’t run out.

I would do a painting a year, a sketch a year. If it was only me I know I would never do it. Having to tell you makes all the difference. It’s crazy why I didn’t do this years ago, it’s so easy all of a sudden.

  1. I would like to start an electric vehicle charging station business where it’s like a gas station but only with electric car and truck chargers. My obstacle is money. Plus I know next to nothing about running a business.

    • Phil–

Some brain-storming, but very much YMMV:

–One of Barbara Sher’s books (possibly this one) has a story of a man following B’s advice to try out a career, so he could use the skills learned to do what he really wanted. Long time since I read this; but IIRC he decided, just for fun, to learn to paint, paint some pictures, sell them, get them displayed in a gallery, etc. It worked out so well for him that he decided to stick with painting!

Maybe trying something very small could help you get ready for what you want to do, or even point you in another, good direction?

–Learning to start and run a business: Lots of free resources online, plus paid courses. Possibly even classes on YouTube.

      >>The Balance: Small Business
      https://www.thebalancesmb.com/

      >>Info for kids, on any subject, is often much more accessible for adults than material written for adults. So go to a search engine, and plug in:
      “business learning for kids”.

      >>Community colleges, and other “easy to get into” classes. Don’t know where you are; but in the US we have 2 year community colleges. They vary; but generally you can take many of the classes without being formally admitted for a degree–and they’re much cheaper than regular colleges. Some even have free courses. They often have business courses available.

      >>Library books!

      Good luck! 🙂

  2. I am about to submit a women’s INSPIRATIONAL fiction manuscript to agents. This is not the first project I have “finished” and failed to submit… I am writing anonymously, so my additional obstacle is seeking the right agents/people and getting the right help but also remaining anonymous. Any ideas? Of course, there is also the possibility of self-publishing… so I would need money for that (sure)… and it’s been suggested I do a “kick starter.” I am late coming into the group, so apologies, in advance, if this has already been undertaken…

    • Ariel–

With the Internet, I’m not sure that you *do* need a bunch of money (or any) to self-publish. AIUI, publishing for Amazon Kindle is free. There are many other companies. You probably should check the Better Business Bureau, and some reviews, to see what you’re getting into.

I just found this article. It’s several years old, but it looks good–and mentions some e-publishing sites that are still around.

“Self-publishing a book: 25 things you need to know.
Considering self-publishing a book? CNET’s David Carnoy discusses the ins and outs of what it’s all about.”

      https://www.cnet.com/news/self-publishing-a-book-25-things-you-need-to-know/

      Good luck! 🙂

  3. Wish: for my mom to find a job as a phlebotomist making more than $ 13.00 in or near Ottawa County, Michigan

Obstacles: she can’t work Saturdays for religious reasons. She is also new to the workplace after a 25 year absence. She just finished a phlebotomist certification course finishing with high marks, and she was an RN before my brother was born.

  4. My wish is to help my friend find a loving relationship. Obstacles:

    1. She belongs to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and is not interested in marrying anyone who is not a committed Adventist. It’s kinda hard to find like minded young men, it took me forever to meet my fiancé.

    2. She lives in an area where there just isn’t a lot of options to meet age appropriate guys (late 20’s early 30’s). She tried online dating sites and didn’t connect with anyone that wasn’t creepy. Disclaimer, this girl is not picky, but she does have standards!

    3. She’s Canadian and would really prefer to find someone from Western Canada. She’s the kind of person who likes to connect in person and hates small talk. She’s all in for deep conversations!

    • I had the same problems. I knew what I wanted but wasn’t finding him.

First I watched Marissa Peer on YouTube – her video on “I Am Enough” and wrote the words “I Am Enough” at the top of all my mirrors in red lipstick and every time I would go by, I’d say it to myself. I also bought her program “Uncompromised Life” on MindValley. Best thing ever!

One day in prayer, I asked what could be the exact words that encapsulated all I needed and wanted in a man and it came to me…

I wrote these exactly words at the top of my vision board…

I am so happy and grateful now that I have the perfect man for me!

David appeared 6 weeks later. He is everything, we get along great, he is generous, kind, took the lead and I just followed. He came in a different package than I expected, but boy am I glad I went for it.

He is the best man I have every known.

Tell your friend to do this and keep an open mind. Anyone who asks her out, say yes and see where it leads.

      xoxo

      • Oh, and we’ve been together for 16 months tomorrow. Yesterday for Christmas he presented me with a Tiffany flower ring which we saw over the 4th of July in NYC. Never knew he was secretly getting it for me.

It’s not an engagement ring rather a commitment ring and that’s fine with me. Just beautiful.

        I’m a very happy lady.

    • Are there any 7DA conferences/conventions she might attend? A 7DA volunteer project? Are there any 7DA dating sites?

      Wishing her whatever’s best!

  5. I’ve been digging through all of this amazing advice and websites. Thank you so much! I think I was scared to share my dreams because I thought someone might take it and run with it. Ive had to unlearn these survival habits. There’s an incredible energy that happens with passions come together!

My idea is to offer an exchange….. I can film artisans and edit the content for social media to funnel them to a website for product purchasing. There’s a timeline to having it available which will take time to develop. We have a recording studio and will be purchasing a 4K camera and equipment to take with us. My husband also wishes to complete his masters degree with a college in Chichester UK via online course… his degree is in composing music and sound design for film, tv, and games. we also want to visit during the times they host special guests and make connections in the industry. I think this can work well with my dream too.
I welcome any thoughts… I should mention that we have 6 kids. We are pursing our dreams while balancing their development, dreams, and education. This makes us unusual not only because of the amount of responsibility but because we think having them travel as they get old enough will help develop a global view, understanding of culture and economics. But wow…… it’s going to be an interesting journey.

  6. Current situation: I have experience burnout (aka adrenal fatigue in usa) since april of this year. During this time I have been so fatigued I have been unable to work. My wish is a speedy recovery & making sure I change my patterns so this doesnt happen again in the future. Im currently in the Netherlands

Wish: That I could particpate in a inhouse program with supervised assitance where I can recover with the help of proffesional bonus would be if they also offer alternative medicine practices.

Obstacle: Im a student so my budget is tiny €500. Insurance wont cover it. I also dont know where they offer this kind of service inhouse.

Please help me with your suggestions!! Looking forward to your replies.

  7. I appreciate that reading, writing & arithmetic is important but mental health, psychology & therapy, on a full scale needs to be included in the school system on some level but at the same time the parents, family members, guardians etc. need psychological help as well. Obstacles are money and I wouldn’t know where to start. I also wish for more loving & sensitive facilities to house & assist children & senior citizens who may be in abusive situations (not just physical but mental & psychological).

    • “One Simple Idea” is a great book you may want to read. It talks about how to license ideas without being the one to bring them to market. Great book !!!

Also, keep in mind that the time spent patenting any idea is only as good as your willingness (and financial ability) to defend it in court. A better rule is “The first to get it to market wins.”

That said, I have a friend who passed away a few years ago who would get patents on things, never intending to develop them. He said, “Ideas are a dime a dozen. No one’s idea is ever as unique as they think. I just patent the ideas and then sue people when they violate my patent.” He held well over 100 patents. I never asked him how many people he had sued. His point was well taken, though, that ideas are a dime a dozen and not nearly as unique as we think. I’ve had lots of ideas that I never pursued, and then a few years later, someone would execute one of the ideas almost to the tee. Truly, “there is nothing new under the sun.” I did ask my friend what his best advice was for inventors. He said, “Hire the best patent attorney you can find. Don’t try to do it yourself.”

If you want someone to brainstorm bringing the ideas to reality with you, you are welcome to reach out to me directly at 615-578-5537. (I hope that is allowed. If not, Barbara (or Barbara’s people), please feel free to delete this with my apologies.

  8. I found a red talk ‘ how isolation kills dreams’ .
It hit hard at home . Last year I designed an app . It’s only to the final stage and it the designers need 21,000$. I also own a car hauling company. With one truck the keeps me over occupied. My sisters and I don’t speak because I got tired of being used for the money I did make . My app is at at stand still. I am almost 40 , no kids and not married. I want and tried , to be home this winter and hire a driver for my truck and I would dispatch. I want to go to school for psychology and take dance lessons. I have my whole life wrapped up in trucking and into this company, where I would lose my sense of self value and independence if I gave this up . However, i I’m not happy out on the road any more .
    Thanks – hugs

    • Start where you are, Kristy. Instead of trying to line up the entire plan, take a step and see what you learn from that new vantage point. Can you start to learn psychology from an online course with recorded lectures you can listen to as you drive? Can you talk with other truckers about their Wishes and Obstacles? Seems like a way to keep your dreams alive while meeting people who might be able to help you find a driver. And if the app is relevant to them, you might find 10 or 20 investors among them. Can you add new services to your car hauling business that would give you more contact with people in the dealerships (and maybe soon a way to earn extra money while someone else drives your truck)?

  9. I meant to reply to shira with that. Sorry, it probably looks like robot spam but it’s not. First thing I thought of when I read digital nomad and accountant.. the course looks legit but I dont have the skills or organization to be a virtual bookkeeper so I have never tried it out. Looks legit, maybe someone out there has more information

    • Hi Andy,

Thank you for that. I already have a BA in Finance and am almost done with my MBA in Accounting. I am already eligible to sit for the CPA exams and get licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. I may be a little over qualified, which probably why I haven’t gotten any responses when I apply for jobs like this.

      Thank you for your response.

      Shira

      • Shira,

I’m an interior designer, desiring the same sort of flexibility and freedom to travel that being a digital nomad gives.

Check out upwork.com … I use this site (to be honest, haven’t had a TON of luck, but I’m not consistent, which I think is the key). They have all sorts of projects that people require assistance with – either one time or ongoing.

Could you also find multiple small local businesses that simply need a few hours of accounting each week and only be in the office a bit, with at least a little bit more of a free schedule to travel? Not sure if this is exactly what you had in mind.

And, lastly, I heard of an accountant who works with a woman who leads travel tours all over the world, so now she Does her finances AND goes on these tours (free). Also not sure that’s exactly what you had in mind.

Nonetheless, A few options, and I’m sending positive vibes your way..

        Cheers!
