How Does the Online Idea Party Work?

You have a dream or a wish, and an obstacle to getting there. (If you don’t think you know your wish, work through my kick-starter and read this post. To learn why you must put logic aside to find your dream, read the following.)

The online Idea Party is here to help you – and the other fellow party goers – with your wishes and obstacles.

Voices from Success Teams and Idea Parties:

Having a team to report to and hearing what everybody did each week is very exciting. It’s kept me moving all year. In the past I made some good starts on my own, but found, every time, when the energy ran out, I ran out. Now it doesn’t run out.

I would do a painting a year, a sketch a year. If it was only me I know I would never do it. Having to tell you makes all the difference. It’s crazy why I didn’t do this years ago, it’s so easy all of a sudden.

  1. My Want: I want to own my own business, specifically food based. I’m a restaurant manager and my partner is a Chef. There is a cafe for sale in my area for $60,000CAD. It’s been established for 18 years, has a low rent cost of $1018/month, $50,000 in Cash flow, 90,000 annum and $10,000 in Asset/fixtures.

    My obstacles:
    1) I have poor credit from a previous marriage when I was 19.(working on rebuilding, but only started 14 months ago, was living on cash only for the past 10 years)
    2) I don’t have much in the way of assets. Just started building a TFSA.
    3) because of 1 and 2 I don’t have what it takes to qualify for a loan.

  2. My Wish:
I want to help design culturally empathetic Artificial Intelligence.

    My Obstacle:
I don’t have a computer science degree. I have a BA in Anthropology and years of experience as a PM working to encourage the willing suspension of disbelief. But I’m awkward so while I’ve spoken to a number of VPs who love my ideas, hiring managers always end up picking someone with more experience. Also I’m a woman, and sexism is oh so real in tech.

    • I’m sorry. I’m not sure why it posted that…

I suggest for motivation taking a really interesting class online. Edx.org offers classes from the best universities in the world. You can audit them for free or pay for a certificate. Sometimes learning something new is all it takes to focus.

  3. Hi, my name is Monica, I’m 56 years old with a background in social work and counseling.
MY DREAM: to start a Spiritual Retreat Center where people could come and study the Torah, the first 5 books of the Bible, and learn how to live according to its teachings, as much as possible. I’m not Jewish, so my primary audience would most likely be those from a Christian background, but that is definitely not a requirement. I would also like for us to grow as much of our own food as possible, and see in what other ways this Center might grow (remaining non-profit of course).
MY OBSTACLE: I have no money, no property, and other than my husband no other like-minded individuals to help get started, but I believe there are people out there who want to see something like this come about. Our first preference for location would be California, but most important is that we be able to grow food, preferably year round. Thank you!

  4. Hello! My name is Liza. I am a 35 year old graphic designer and visual artist. For the past 2 years I’ve dedicated my practice to help the ocean.
MY DREAM is to help spread awareness about the ocean through my art in the form of art exhibits all around the world. I would like to start in the united states because I want to live in Florida.
MY OBSTACLE I need money or sponsorship for my art exhibit to travel. And I need a lawyer that can help me get an O1 Visa. But the most important thing for me at this moment is to have places or spaces where I can put my art.

My art can be seen in lizarodriguez.com
Thank you all and have a great day!

  5. Hi guys,

I’m slowly working on my dream!

I’m Jo, artist, writer, traveller, mental health advocate, wild west and ghost nut intrigued by science and a renaissance soul with a potty sense of humour.

I’ve recovered from thirty years of depression and anxiety and I’m rebuilding my polymath creativity and life and recording it on my blog, Creating My Odyssey. I’m sharing my mental health experiences to give other sufferers hope, and I’m aspiring to live an eclectic, creative life with some adventure, and to be a bit of a role model for my age group, the over sixties, and to live a life less ordinary with the help of my soulmate Husband!

I’m incredibly creative and want to experiment more artistically and try to get my art into the public domain voluntarily in some way to help those who suffer with mental health issues.

I’ve also been writing an epic western novel for many years. Alias Jeannie Delaney is the life story of a devastating cowgirl who’s the fastest gun and bisexual. My greatest wish has been to get this published. I’m determined to finish and publish on Amazon. So, with the help of my brilliant Husband, I’m editing the first three parts and will publish that before working on the rest.

It’s taken me years to reach this conclusion, ever since my full recovery from depression began. If anyone can help with any of this, I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you so much!

  6. Wish: I want to start a business as a speaker and facilitator to help people be the best they can be.

Obstacle: I have live on my own a long time and with working full time sometimes I find it hard to get my material together as I have no one to bounce ideas off.

    • Sandra here. I don’t know were you live but that doesn’t matter. I am part of a business bootcamp and a few of us are speakers and building on our platform. There is a lot of knowledge in our group and support (accountability). SO if you want to learn more how we can support send me an email and remind me how we met (Barbara Sher’s club) hippologic@gmail.com

  7. Dear Idea party members

I would like to share my desire to live and work as an artist successfully in America or in Canada and see what ideas you all have about this.
I am an artist, I do professional performances, installations, videos, landart, the art of weaving and many more. http://www.dorotheaseror.de I love to be an artist and I dont want to do anything else. I just want to be very successful (in monetary terms and in recognition)
I would love to have new ideas how I can implement the plan. I am from Germany and “already” 57 years old. Thank you so much for an answer.

  8. I currently work full-time to pay my bills and pay off my debts. My dream is to start a business on the side. I got clear on what I want to do participating in an “I could do anythings, if I only knew what it was” online seminar. So I have started doing Textile Design in the mornings before work, and occasional SoulRealignments™ on the weekends. But I notice – doing it alone without anyone to talk to about it – I’m not moving forward as fast as I had hoped. I get lost in details doing the drawings, and end up spending too much time on one drawing and haven’t made money with the drawings yet and I have been doing the SoulRealignments™ mostly for friends and not as a business so far. So I want to get more focused.

    • Susanna, This sounds like “permanent – beta” mode to me. Anyway, it’s how I operate. I jump in and do what’s in front of me and compelling, then stop and assess and adjust. And with others is WAY more fun.
So your sub-dream is (I’m guessing from what you’re written) have people to talk to about this.
      And your new obstacle is???
(Happy to chat real-time if that’s helpful. Isolation is the dream-killer, as we know)
      Jane JaneELewis@gmail.com

    • Dear Susanna, this sounds like you enjoy doing the drawings!
May be this is what you are supposed to do?
I am an artist and I learned to accept that what I am right now doing and love to to is the way my art is and should be.
      All the best
      Doro
