Hanging Out with Barbara Sher

Hanging Out with Barbara Sher Registration Re-Opens in July 2017

Hanging Out with Barbara Sher will be the jewel in the crown of Barbara’s Club. To be honest, I think it’s going to be the jewel in the crown of my lifetime’s work. That’s what it feels like. —Barbara Sher

I call this membership site Hanging Out with Barbara Sher, because I want it to be like those wonderful moments when we’re just hanging out together at my retreats and weekend workshops.

I’ve put together my most beloved ideas and stories and written my best stuff ever for Hanging Out. This is bigger than writing another book. It’s a huge job, but every minute has been a labor of love for me. And with this program I can give you videos from my retreats and workshops, loads of audio, new interactive stuff and other amazing things I can’t describe here or I’ll go on forever. All this in addition to the exercises that made a big difference to you in the past.

After almost a year HO is still my favourite thing on the internet and in my inbox. So many things I could just read over and over and find something each time. The world didn’t change but I’m different in it. -JD

I’m excited about this exercise. I’ve printed it out to work on over the weekend. Barbara, I look forward to working it through and circling back. You’re a gemstone! -A Hanging Out member in Week 38

Once you’re a member, the rest will be easy. Every week, three times a week, via email, I’ll send you some very special things to read, watch and do. They’re not what you expect, I’m pretty sure of that. As much as you may like my books, what you’re going to find in Hanging Out is very new and very different. You’ll want to make comments, compare notes and talk to the other members of Hanging Out, and that’s exactly what happens here. It changes the whole experience into something entirely new, something most of us are missing and need as much as vitamins and sunshine. The effect on most members has been profound.

You can’t buy Hanging Out all at once like a book that ends up on that pile of books you plan to read, and you can’t stick it back on your bookshelf and forget what your life is supposed to be. I’ve learned too much about what’s important for us humans to take that kind of chance.

Hanging out has really developed clarity in my life. One thing that I love about you Barbara is that you never tell anyone to just try harder and you don’t shame in any way. You support and encourage which is so very rare. You make sense of the non-sense. This group has provided something wonderful for me. Even the subtle messages are always very powerful. —Michelle

So what is it?

It’s easier to say what it’s not. Hanging Out is not a how-to course or a motivation program. I sometimes think it’s designed for people who have worked too hard and forgot what it’s like to wake up in a goal-free world full of fresh, stimulating ideas, fun and camaraderie.

I’ll always have courses for you on Barbara’s Club so you can find your dreams and achieve your goals, but Hanging Out is not about goal achievement. Instead, it’s more like what one member called “a profound and delicious form of Identity Rehab.”

I absolutely love the idea of Barbara’s Club being integrated into the everyday world—nothing to leave behind—and a consistent source of inspiration. Thank you! —Victoria, by email

If you join me here, I’ll be popping into your life briefly, happily and relentlessly, over and over, waking up your senses, making you laugh and go exploring and, most important of all, helping you remember who you are and how good life is supposed to be.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating Hanging Out with Barbara. There have been so many “favorite” posts. One that stands out is your description of how you decorated your apartment with all the glorious references to color. I wanted to sink into one of your armchairs and absorb it all. Finding our originality. Yes. Discovering ways to express it. Yes. Realizing that time is short and excuses long. Yes. Boxing up all our should, would and could and relaxing into today, into now, into this moment. Yes. Finding that joy is the reward for allowing oneself to just be who you are. Yes. So many wonderful lessons I have learned, relearned, and unlearned this year…What I have learned this year has changed my life. For that I am eternally grateful. – A Hanging Out Member at the end of Year One

  1. From your information and your video about Hanging Out I understand that your messages may be inspirational, and wake up and ignite some forgotten passions.
I’d like to get more information; i.e. does this membership include telephone conferencing and opportunities to get together with you and/or other members.
    Thank you very much,
    Deborah Drucker

    • Deborah, Year One of Hanging Out is all online. We watch, listen or read and post our comments in forms just like the one on this page (except that only our fellow members can read our Hanging Out comments). Barbara reads and replies to as many comments as her schedule allows. (Which is a lot of them.)

In Year Two, in addition to our online discussions, we get together by phone six times throughout the year, just to chat with each other (including Barbara) and share our questions and stories of the fascinating things we’ve done since the last 90-minute call.

  2. How can one little seven-minute video make me laugh and cry all in one go?! Plus I now want to have goldfish again! I’d forgotten how wonderful they are… 🙂
Am trying to find a way (financially) to join Hanging Out, either this time or next as I so want to be a part of this… Fingers crossed. 😀

  3. I am anxious to join the Hanging Out group and look forward to getting out of the rut I’m currently in for unknown reasons. I’ve worked very hard to successfully accomplish the goals that I have to date, but feel exhausted and disconnected from continuing forward with my next goals. Im hoping I just need some time to rest and recoup, but feeling lazy and overwhelmed with work ahead. Looking forward to this group as regenerating enthusiasm and reigniting long lost interests. I’ve been a big fan of Barbara’s for a long time now, really looking forward to Hanging Out!!!

  4. Hello,

I’m considering joining Hanging out with Barbara, and I was wondering if along the year, there will be things, exercises, or things concerning addressing the topic of resistance, because that’s really something I’d love to explore more. Among other things.
Thanks in advance for your attention to my question
    Have a nice day!
    🙂
    Sophie

    • Hi, Sophie. Hanging Out is about rediscovering who you are, rather than achieving a goal. It doesn’t bring up any resistance, but it also doesn’t include much to help you deal with the resistance that comes up when you set a goal. Barbara is working on a new program that will. Should debut within the next year or so. In the meantime, Hanging Out is a great community with lots of interesting topics to read, watch, and listen to.

  5. Hi there, it is only possible to buy a gift certificate now, and we must wait until October 30 to register for ourselves, is that correct? Thank you.

  6. Hi, I’ve read Refuse to Choose and seen some of Barbara Sher’s videos, I’m very interested in joining Hangouts but I’m from India and I have a few questions. Given my location,Is it possible for me to join Hangouts? Is there a limited number of positions available? If, when is the right time to register for hangouts?
and Is Hangouts purely an online activity?

    • Hanging Out with Barbara Sher includes people from all over the world, Sanjay, and we’d love to have you. For the first year, everything is online. You’ll receive a message in your inbox, follow the link to read the rest online, and add your comments there. You’re sure to see lots of comments and replies from Barbara. There’s no need to show up at any particular time. In the second year, six telephone get-togethers with your fellow members and Barbara are scheduled in addition to the messages. They’ll be around midnight your time on a Saturday or Sunday, and you’re welcome to call in with Skype when you’re a second-year member.

    • Forgot part of my answer. The number of openings is not limited, but we open the doors to new members only 3 times a year. The next one begins on or about October 30th and ends November 13th.

  7. If I have fallen off the active new stuff I would like to be reinstated. Paid for a year starting last of March 2016. I think Patty’s instruction was to send an email here. I was “dormant” myself for a few weeks while out of town this summer.
